Golden Opportunities and Gifts
Living in the Present Moment
"Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best for the next moment."
Oprah Winfrey
Today is a new day and we have the choice to either dwelling in the past or future or become aware of the opportunities that are presenting themselves in the present moment. You may ask yourself, “How do I live in the present moment?”
Living in the present moment takes practice. Most of us are busy doing THINGS which we feel are very important and do not take the time to slow down and see what is happening around us.
My husband, Bob, would always say, “Look at those birds singing in the trees and isn’t it a shame most people don’t even see them.” Bob always took the time to enjoy nature. I on the other hand was always rushing around and never took the time to enjoy my surroundings. Slowly I began changing and noticing the beauty around me.
Some of the steps you can take to start living in the present moment are as follows:
1. Every so often take a deep breath and close your eyes.
2. Open your eyes and look for the beauty around you.
3. While sitting quietly listen to your inner voice.
4. Acknowledge yourself for taking the time.
Performing this exercise on a daily bases helped me to start living in the present moment. Today I am in touch with my inner voice and aware of the opportunities and gifts I am receiving on a daily basis.
The opportunities and gifts I have received today are as follows:
• Opportunity: I was able to fill the birdfeeders with food and then watch the birds out my office window.
• Gift: During this difficult time I am learning that people are very special and want to support me in anyway they can. I am also learning how to support others.
Please share with others who read this blog the steps you take to live in the present moment and what gifts and opportunities you are receiving today. Helen

I to am looking for the opertunities in the day. I recently have gone through a painful experience with my husband. In stead of stamping my feet and yelling I wish this never happened I am looking for the gifts and opertunities. I have learned the yelling and cring never got anything done but looking at the opertunities I can grow and become a better person for my self and those around me. My opertunity is: I too am afraid of intimacy and have spent my life tring to control people so they would want to be around me and love me. When my life is so clouded I can not be with people or be in the moment of today. The gift is that I am willing to love my husband and find a new relationship. Another gift is that I am willing to use this as an oppertunity to grow and own my part in the distrution of our marriage.
What a beautiful gifts you are giving Yourself, husband and the marriage. Thanks you for sharing your gifts. Helen

Hi Sham:
I love Oprah's different quotes they are so meaningful. Helen
Dear Helen,
I just read your post on the Co-active Network about the loss of your husband; having never been married I can't imagine what you must have gone through and continue to sort out after so many years together. Thank you for your inspiring blog, which I am reading now for the first time.
My 50 years on earth have not been the easiest. I have also been abundantly blessed in so many ways. Using The Work of Byron Katie to question my thoughts has shown me that the universe is friendly and that everything is done for us, not to us.
For a few years I've been experiencing health and financial "problems" which would have completely derailed me years ago. I have seen how the continued challenges are here to point me towards the heart, away from body-identification. The cave of the heart is the destination of this life's journey. There is nothing like seeing what you can't have in order to recognize what you can and do have.
Love,
Carol
