Pet Lovers

Do you have a pet? I have two cats and their names are Alfie, a black cat with a white patch on his stomach and Alice who is white and grey with a pink nose. Both my cats have different personalities. Alfie is very loving and Alice considers herself a princess.

Both my cats are teaching me how to love and accept love unconditionally. It has always been easier for me to give and hard to receive. I would love to give someone a gift and watch them get excited when they opened the present. On the other hand, when someone gave me a present I felt embarrassed.

One day Alice was sitting on my desk as I was writing my blog and just looking at me with love in her eyes (my interpretation). I realized how uncomfortable I felt having her stare at me. What I wanted to do was pet her and stop feeling uncomfortable. Instead I made myself sit there and enjoy the moment.

I was out to dinner with a few friends and I was telling them how uncomfortable I felt when Alice was staring at me with love in her eyes. Others at the table started talking about their pets and how special they are in their lives. Some of the stories are as follows:

• Jay was taking a hike in the park with his dog. Suddenly he tripped over a tree branch and fell. His dog, Spike, laid down next to him and started to bark until someone came running to see what was happening. The man checked to see if Jay was alright and called 911. Jay had broken his ankle and now is perfectly fine. Spike is Jay’s hero.

• Chris told us how her cat, Sadie, always sits on the floor next to her while she is working on the computer. Chris is a technical writer and sometimes experiences writers block. Sadie being there gives her moral support to continue working.

I would love to hear your pet stories. Please leave them on the comment section of this blog or send me an email to helen@loveyourselfcoaching.net.

Wishing everyone a holiday season sprinkled with love and beautiful memories.

Hi Helen, Thankyou for visiting my blog, lovely to meet you.
I am a real sucker for our two dogs, & love hearing stories of pets. They enrich our lives so much. In the past we have had cats, & dogs, & I think I enjoy the dogs the most, as they seem more interactive.
My favourite cat was a ginger one we called Aslan & he was just lovely. He lived in the bar as the Hotel cat, after we sold the Hotel, & moved overseas.

My favorite thing to do with our long deceased cat Stanley was play walnuts. Kind of hard to describe...

Basically, our mom used to keep a bowl of walnuts in the middle of the kitchen table. Stanley would be sitting there, which of course he wasn't supposed to do.

Still, you'd then take a walnut from the bowl and roll it to his front paws. Stanley would then stare fixedly at the walnut - very attentive. He'd do that for like ten seconds.

Then he'd bat the walnut but not that hard. It would sort of wobble toward you. Then, if you were as nutty as I was, you'd copy Stanley, staring attentively at the walnut and suddenly wacking it back toward him.

So it had the look and feel of something cerbral or contemplative like chess but you were really just looking at a walnut and hitting it back and forth.

Helen,
Pets are a very good example of what unconditional love looks and feels like. Thanks for sharing your story.

Hi Paul:

Thanks for sharing your pet story. Sounds like you had fun playing walnuts with Stanley. Our cat, Alfie plays ball with us. If you sit on the floor and roll a plastic ball to him he rolls it back to you. The only trouble he likes to play the game all the time.

If you have any other pet stories I would love to hear them. Helen

Thanks for sharing your pet
